Tero for education

Spot suspicious access.
Across your campus.

Shared networks and departmental services give your security team a lot to watch. Tero deploys realistic Decoys that reveal suspicious exploration—and capture the evidence your team needs to investigate.

A focused detection layer for the services behind learning and research.

When exploration deserves attention

They explore your services.
Your Decoys reveal the activity.

A staff workspace or research repository can look like an ordinary campus resource. A Decoy gives that interaction a believable setting and your team a record to investigate.

Three people-free comic scenes show campus-service discovery, interaction with a synthetic research-repository Decoy and an evidence-review workstation.
01 / Discovery

A campus service attracts interest.

Someone discovers a staff share, reporting database or research-support repository represented by a Tero Decoy.

02 / Interaction

The Decoy records the sequence.

Supported requests interact with synthetic content. The Decoy captures the operations attempted and the outcomes observed.

03 / Investigation

The evidence keeps its context.

Follow the observed source, target and session alongside the department, Sensor and environment involved.

Around the services your institution runs

From administrative offices
to research-support networks.

Start with the resources an intruder may explore. Choose supported Decoys for approved campus IT segments and departmental environments.

ADMINISTRATION & SHARED SERVICES

“What files can I reach?”

Represent staff workspaces, finance shares and internal support portals. Reveal browsing and access attempts with realistic synthetic content.

TEACHING & RESEARCH SUPPORT

“Where are the projects?”

Represent code repositories, development databases and artifact services used in technical workflows. Follow discovery and supported access attempts.

CAMPUS IT & DEPARTMENTAL NETWORKS

“What else is connected?”

Use supported database, file and access-service Decoys in selected IT segments. Keep recorded activity tied to the right department and deployment.

Capability availability depends on the verified Sensor release and host requirements. Use synthetic content rather than student records, assessments or proprietary research.

From an unusual interaction to a clear lead

A research repository was explored.
See the operations behind it.

A connection alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Tero brings the recorded requests and outcomes into one investigation, with the deployment context your team needs to assess the activity.

  • The target: the repository Decoy and departmental environment.
  • The sequence: discovery, retrieval and a write attempt.
  • The outcome: what the Decoy returned and what it denied.

Fit the layer to your campus

Choose the department.
Deploy your Decoys.

Verify the visibility.

Place a Sensor on an approved, supported host in your office, on-premises or supported cloud environment. Configure private access to the Decoys for the clients you want to observe.

01
Agree the scope with campus IT

Choose an administrative, departmental or research-support segment.

02
Represent relevant services

Select supported Decoys and synthetic content that fit the department.

03
Validate from a separate client

Confirm readiness, observed-source attribution and the investigation record.

Before you deploy

Practical answers
for education IT teams.

Can we deploy across different departments?

Plan Sensor placement around the segments you want to observe. Link each deployment to its department or environment and verify private reachability. Isolated networks may require separate deployments.

Does Tero need real student or research data?

No. Use synthetic records, documents and project content in Decoys. Do not copy student information, assessments, proprietary research or production credentials into them.

Does Tero monitor every student or every device?

This solution records interactions with deployed Tero Decoys. It does not imply general browsing surveillance, visibility into every device or inspection of all campus traffic.

What should we validate in a pilot?

Decoy readiness, access from a separate client, observed-source attribution, correct departmental context, recorded responses and the investigation workflow for each selected capability.
